« I need to hear some substance and depth in music. Definitely some emotion. Thats why I really dig the songs I included in the mix. »
We’re really proud to welcome TMCT for our fifteenth mix as we got a lot in common with the guy from Leeds, lover of rawness and huge Soul, Jazz, Brazilian and of course Hip-Hop fan as we are. TMCT (or Tomcat) also runs a small tape label called Acorn Tapes (Mark Aubert, Sir Froderick), specialising in quality digital and cassette releases.
Go on Bandcamp and listen to Acorn’s first three releases waiting for the next ones to come – « Lots of things in the pipeline with that ». But first, you should check this exclusive OCK mix, maybe the finest one we had the chance to host.
Swarvy – ‘November’
Im a straight sucker for that loose, laid back piano rawness.
Top$ – ‘yewnork’
I knew there had to be a top$ track on here. Simplicity and effectiveness. The hardest and most attractive thing.
James Matthew – ‘untitled’
Old one from James but still a favourite. Signature sound. Heartstrings = dead. Typewriter sounds.
Charlemang – ‘erryminute’
Cant remember where or how I came across Charlemang but I’m glad I did. I think it might have been something swarvy posted? Anyway this track and ‘panikked’ have been on rotation since I found them.
Lomaji – ‘Chocolate’
This is from what is still one of my favourite cassette releases from Dirty Tapes. This track just makes me stare into nowhere. It makes me feel almost nervous inside like my hearts about to fall out my arse. I want it to go on forever. It feels like I know more about the song. Like I was already familiar with it or parts of it the first time I heard it.
tropes – ‘you and me’
Tropes is a long time fave. Definitely got that individual sound. This one works perfectly with the ‘Nascapella’. Makes me dance a small snappy happy dance. The up and downs just glide perfectly with all the elements.
